Ah, time travel – it’s not just for sci-fi enthusiasts and Doctor Who anymore. In fact, I’ve discovered that time travel is something we all experience in our lives, albeit in a slightly different form. It’s not about hopping into a TARDIS, but rather about the moments that transport us back in time, making our hearts swell with emotion. Here are the top three times time travel brought a tear of joy to my eye:

1. Cruise Ship Teen Club Friends Forever Picture this: a shy, reserved teenager embarking on a cruise ship adventure with trepidation in her eyes. That teenager was my oldest daughter, and the magic happened in the teen club aboard the ship. As I watched her make friends, my heart soared. It was like witnessing her stepping into a time machine, leaving her shyness behind.
Fast forward to today, and those cruise ship friendships are still going strong. The bond formed during those teenage years has stood the test of time, transcending the oceans that once separated them. As a parent, seeing my daughter blossom and forge lifelong friendships was a heartwarming time travel experience.
2. Majestic Waterfalls: Nature’s Time Machine Nature has a unique way of taking us on a journey through time, and standing in front of majestic waterfalls is one of those portals. The sheer force and beauty of cascading water can transport you to a different era, evoking awe and reverence.
One such occasion that brought tears to my eyes was standing in front of a breathtaking waterfall. The deafening roar of water crashing down and the fine mist kissing our faces transported us back to a simpler time when the world was untouched by the chaos of modern life. In that moment, the power of nature reminded us of our place in the grand tapestry of time. Witnessing the wonder of nature through young eyes is one of the most touching time travel experiences that happened when I took my youngest daughter to Catawba Falls in North Carolina. As we hiked through the lush forest, we reached a clearing where the falls came into view. The sheer beauty of the cascading waterfalls took her breath away, and she stood there, teary-eyed, mesmerized by the natural wonder before her. Interested in seeing out Catawba Falls for yourself? In that moment, I felt like I was witnessing time travel through her young eyes. The sheer wonder and amazement she felt transported me back to my own childhood, reminding me of the pure joy of discovery.

3. The Ecstatic Dance at Cathedral Rock Sedona, Arizona, is known for its stunning red rock formations, and Cathedral Rock is among the most iconic. One evening, as the full moon bathed the landscape in a soft, silvery glow, I was invited to a local gathering – a full moon drum circle and ecstatic dance.
The setting was breathtaking, with the towering Cathedral Rock as the backdrop. What made it truly special, though, was the sense of freedom and camaraderie among the participants. Strangers became friends as they danced and celebrated under the moonlight, shedding their inhibitions in a judgment-free zone.
As I watched this joyful spectacle, tears welled up in my eyes. It was a moment of time travel to a place where people connected on a deep, primal level, celebrating the simple joys of life. You can watch my video of this experience here.
In the end, time travel doesn’t always require a sci-fi device or a DeLorean. It happens when we immerse ourselves in meaningful experiences, witness our loved ones grow, connect with nature’s wonders, and share moments of pure joy with strangers turned friends. These are the times that bring tears to our eyes, reminding us that the past, present, and future are intricately connected in the tapestry of our lives.
