Welcome, fellow green globetrotters! In a world where sustainable living is becoming increasingly vital, we can’t forget about our travel adventures. Fear not, my kindred wanderlusters, for I bring you a light-hearted guide to traveling sustainably. Let’s embark on a journey where eco-consciousness meets the road. Buckle up and pack your sense of humor because here are 9 tips to make your next trip an eco-friendly holiday!

- Pack Light, but Heavy on the Sense of Adventure: Yes, we all love to over pack, but let’s be real here—traveling sustainably begins with light luggage. Who needs 16 pairs of shoes for a week-long trip anyway? Save yourself the struggle of dragging around an entire closet and pack only the essentials. Oh, and don’t forget to leave some room for your sense of adventure and fun! It’s like dessert. There’s always room for more!
- Reusable Is the New Black: No more one-time-use plastics, darlings! Say goodbye to disposable water bottles, straws, and shopping bags. Arm yourself with a reusable water bottle, a stainless steel straw, reusable utensils, toiletry bottles and a trendy tote bag. Who knew saving the planet could make you look so fashionable?
- Become a Local Explorer: While exploring new destinations, why not dive into the local culture? From mouthwatering, locally sourced foods to hand made items from family owned stores. There are countless ways to support the local community when you visit. Embrace your inner local and dive into the culture wherever you roam.
- All Aboard the Public Transportation Train: Jump on board the eco-friendly express! Leave behind the hassle of renting a car or hailing a taxi and embrace public transportation. Buses, trams, subways, and trains are not only great for reducing your carbon footprint, but they also provide amusing stories of accidentally getting off at the wrong stop and ending up in the middle of nowhere. Oops!
- Treat Mother Nature like Your BFF: When exploring natural wonders, treat them with love and respect. Stay on designated trails, avoid littering, and resist the urge to capture that perfect Instagram shot by climbing fragile rock formations. Bring along ecofriendly trash bags just in case there are no receptacles nearby. Remember, leaving only footprints and taking only memories will save you from falling into the “cringe tourist” category.
- Slow Travel: Snail-Like but Sensible: Leave the rush of ticking off every landmark behind and embrace the slow travel movement. Take the time to immerse yourself in the local culture, get lost in winding streets, and engage in meaningful conversations with the locals and ask them for suggestions of where to go and what to do that goes beyond the regular tourist spots. Besides, getting lost in a foreign city can lead to surprising discoveries and hilarious anecdotes. Just make sure you find your way back to the hotel eventually.
- Choose Accommodations with a Green Thumb: When it comes to accommodations, think green! Look for eco-friendly hotels, hostels, or guesthouses that implement sustainable practices such as energy-saving initiatives, recycling programs, or organic toiletries. Plus, staying in an eco-conscious place means you might bump into other eco-warriors who share your love for the planet.
- Put the ‘Eco’ in Ecotourism: Get your eco-adventurer game on! Explore national parks, join wildlife conservation projects, go on a wellness retreat or embark on nature tours that promote sustainable practices. Not only will you have unforgettable experiences, but you’ll also be supporting local initiatives that protect our fragile ecosystems. Just don’t forget to double-check that zip line harness—nobody wants to fly off into the sunset unexpectedly!
- Spread the Green Gospel: Last but not least, share your eco-friendly travel experiences with the world! Use your social media platforms to inspire others to travel sustainably. Who knows, maybe your witty captions and funny anecdotes will encourage others to become green travel enthusiasts too.
Traveling sustainably doesn’t have to be a boring business. By infusing a sense of adventure into our eco-conscious endeavors, we can make our journeys even more memorable. So, my dear adventurers, let’s embark on a sustainable escapade filled with laughter, delicious local cuisine, and plenty of reusable water bottles. Together, we can save the planet one joyful-filled step at a time!

You speak about littering in your post. Please just don’t. Either at home or traveling. I live every close to a road. Every morning I get up to trash in my yard. If I ever get rich, I want to open a branch of law enforcement where you can send garbage people have tossed on your property, have it dna tested and fine the pants off someone. Someone has to pick up the trash you didn’t want rolling around in your floorboard. Great post. Stay green.
Thank you 🙏🏻
