Write about your first crush.

I remember my first crush . . . it’s the sexy accent is what drew me in. Next was the promise of adventure and I can’t deny they gorgeous landscape.

“Wait! What? Landscape?”

Yes. Landscape! I’m talking about France. What did you think I was talking about? Shesh! Get your mind out of the gutter.

France, the first country that made me fall in love with a culture outside my own and sparked the first flames of desire to travel!

I was only around 7 years old when I fell in love with the accent and dreamed of one day being able to visit. I saved up pennies, nickels and dimes in plastic jar to fund a trip to France one day and purchased an English to French dictionary so I could attempt to teach myself french. As you can imagine, that didn’t turn out so well. I slaughtered the language by creating phrases like, “Oh, la, la, bebe, tu est frais.” Which was supposed to mean, “ohh, he’s so cool!” My apologies to French speaking people everywhere. I meant well. LOL!

When I took french in High School I was able to learn french correctly and even had a chance to take a month long trip to France with my class. It was a trip of a life time. I got to stand on the Eiffel Tower, dined on a Siene River Cruise, viewed the Mona Lisa in the Louvre, drank in the opulence at Versaille, and was humbled by wandering the beaches of Normandy. It’s a trip that changed me forever and solidified my love of travel and also for the France. Although I haven’t been able to get back as an adult, I plan to return to my first love one day! Hopefully sooner than later.

For now, every once and again I’ll grab a baguette, a round of Brie, a glass of wine and watch something like, “Forget Paris” or “Emily in Paris” or the Travel Channel to get my France-fix. Hey, it’s better than nothing.

  1. France! I’m limited on the country except my annual indulgence of Tour De France. Some parts of the event is outside the beautiful countryside but the pictures and history are amazing. Thank you for sharing such a tale. Next time, I’ll keep my mind β€œout of the gutter”! Peace!

  2. Made me smile reading this. The best one to me amongst the posts about their firsr crush. I could totally relate to that love at first sight feeling with a country other than our own!!! πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—
